Think Green

Green is a great color, especially when it is covering the foothills all along my house! I love this time of the year because for a short period of time the normally brown shrubby chapparal covered Southern California becomes a beautiful sea of green grasses dotted by bursts of wildflowers. So pretty! I love it!

The purple lupines that line the toll road are my favorite. Last year I actually tried to take pictures as I was speeding down the road. Every morning I drive by the thick patches of purple and it makes the beginning of my drive a reminder to thank God for his beauty.

I went hiking this weekend with my friend Tim and my faithful pup Hannah. As we got up to the top of one of the trails I was walking between two walls of yellow flowers lining the dirt path. Then, it opened up to look out over all the green-hued hills. So breath taking.

Just at the end of the street is a whole field of orange and yellow daisies of some sort. These flowers are interesting because they truly follow the sun. Sunday was a perfectly warm and sunny day so the flowers were open in full bloom soaking in the rays. I wanted to soak in the rays too!

Days like these make me wish I was an artist - I'd paint the scenes and live in the memories of them forever. I am not an artist though - I can't draw for the life of me and my students always tease me every year if I try to draw anything on the board (I just have to laugh - I deserve it! and let them know if I can do it, then so can they!). It definitely helps me to remember the Artist who created all these amazingly beautiful and breath taking scenes!

Here are few favorite passages of mine:

28 “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
31 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the Kingdom of God
above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Matthew 6:28-33

1I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come?
2My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.
3He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.
4Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep.
5The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade on your right hand.
6The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night.
7The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.
8The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever.

Psalm 121
