Another day, another beach...

So, the word beach and school will pretty much sum up my time here, I believe. I can't complain - although it is so warm some days, I just sweat, sweat, and sweat. Yes, I am drinking mas agua and eating lots of fruit. Actually, I must say that I am probably eating healthier just because I am having so much fruit and water. Water or fruit juice is pretty much all I consume.

We ate dinner with our family last night which included friend platanos...so good. Then, Anne and I took naps and then went out to the Monkey Bar for some salsa y merengue. I really liked the Monkey bar. There were a few school mates there and so stood at the bar and I watched a bit of the bull fighting in San Jose. So crazy - just all these men having to prove their manhood standing in a ring with a bull. They run around trying to get the attention of the bull and as soon as he looks at them and heads their way, the run like scared chickens. It's rather funny, but I really don't get it. An adrenaline rush for men?

I went up and watched the salsa dancing for a little bit, but my stomach was somewhat unsettled from the fried dinner. I went back down with my friends and then back up a little later to watch some more. A Tico asked Anne to dance and then me. I was a little concerned about how I would do, but the Latin rhythm seems to come so much more naturally to me (or a swing rhythm, too). It helped that this guy knew how to lead. He was excellent - he had me moving and spinning around - especially when we got to the merangue. The songs had to have lasted at least 15 minutes and I was sure I would be sore today - so far I am not, but I was dripping with sweat. Yes, a lovely picture, I am sure. I spoke with a few other Ticos...they are very friendly but I will say people are people and they love to do their partying and use their drugs - be it alcohol, nicotine, or whatever to enjoy themselves more.

We left for home at 1am - that is early for most of the people here and was able to get a ride back with Antony, our host family cousin. It was quite nice having a cab driver I knew. We slept in, and then Susanna fixed breakfast. So much food! I did have a traditional tamale this morning wrapped in a palm leaf instead of corn husk.

Anne and I took the bus - my first experience on a Tico bus - and a very good experience. We met a very nice young man waiting at the bus stop - 19 years old - who talked to us for a bit. We had some nice smoothies at the beach and then laid out (well, I mostly laid in the shade after a dip in the water). I wrote in my journal and we walked back to meet up with a few friends here and went to lunch. Now I am back, sleepy as I write this thinking about a little dip in the pool and then a nap...We'll see. I think tomorrow's agenda is church in the morning and then a catamarran in the afternoon. We'll see.

Hasta luego!
