Spottings from the Train - Day 2 -Utah & Colorado

* beautiful farm fields of Provo surrounded by rising mountains
* a little family of goats following each other in a line across the field
* horses grazing
* a river winding through the valley bringing life to the area
* highway of cars running parallel to us (and the cars all passing us)
* perfectly blue sky with cottony cloud puffs on the horizon
* high desert bluffs and plateaus of eastern Utah
* Amish or Mennonite couple using a disposable camera to take pictures
* gorgeous red rock formation

* river rafters on the winding Colorado river through narrow canyons
* a big traffic jam going into a tunnel on a highway in Colorado
* burnt trees and grassland in Colorado
* mooning river rafters!

* The amazing Glenwood Canyon
* tunnels weaving in and out of the mountainsides
* rocky slabs of walls jutting out that look like they are about to drop and smash the cars driving below them
* a rainstorm along the Colorado along with lightening (this reminded me of the flash flood my parents and I encountered in Utah coming out of Zion about six years ago)
* Frazier canyon filled with evergreen trees
* the night lights of Denver and beyond

A few thoughts today...
...there is an elderly lady I'd guess in her 80s (maybe even older) who has a hearing aid, baseball cap, hiking shoes and shaded glasses traveling by herself just sitting back and enjoying the amazing view of the train. I hope when I am her age I do the same. Why not sit back and enjoy the beautiful creation God gave us?
...I'm noticing a difference between those that are traveling in the sleeper cars and those that are traveling coach.
...today was refreshing since I sat mostly in the lounge area where it is mostly large windows on on all sides and even curved windows up along the roof
...my lunch today was also refreshing since I sat with an older gentleman and an older couple from the east coast traveling the train. They gave me lots of information on traveling by train, renting cars, etc. Train travel is an interesting look into the lives of other from all walks of life. Some lives you want to know about more than other lives.
...we are four hours behind schedule because there was a rock slide on the tracks somewhere around Elko Nevada. I may miss my connection to go through West Virginia, but my lunch mates made me feel better saying that the northern route through upstate New York is quite lovely
...the bathrooms are getting nastier and nastier as the trip continues. I keep wondering if anyone services them.
...I am going to need a massage by the time I get to New York. Sleeping in the seats is not something I'd recommend in general (although, it works to keep your trip cheap).
...I did get to wash my face a brush my teeth this morning and change some clothes. That was nice. I wasn't sure that was going to happen.
...there are some amazing log cabins tucked away in these canyons on the rivers. That would be a nice place to live.
,,,the train is squeaky
....if I am going to get up and walk then the train is suddenly going to become bouncy so I lose my balance
....the 6 mile Moffat Tunnel is kind of scary
...we were up on some super high rocky cliffs of a gorge looking down at a rushing river, but there were lots of trees around, so I didn't feel too scared

I had a nice long chat with a Scottish boy (well, really man, but he looked so young I felt like he was a boy) from Glasgow who came over to talk to me because he heard I went to a Southern Baptist Church after having a really awkward political conversation with someone who is working on the Obama campaign.
